Movie Meter Mobile App

This project was completed as part of my Interaction Design internship with Movie Meter. I was responsible for helping conceptualize, research, design the user flow, and produce wireframes.

Problem

It takes a long time to find a good movie to watch. The information required to make a judgement about a movie is scattered. Each app uses its own rating system, and do not support popular ratings such as IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, etc.Smart TVs are not so smart in providing this rating.

Hypothesis

The most trusted rating for any human being is a recommendation from our friends/ family about a movie.

Solution

Instead of searching movies in different apps and sites, what if there is an app in smart TV where the user can watch the top rated movies by their friends with top site ratings on their home screen. What if they can share the movie with their friends and having collection of movies which are suggested by their friends according to user interest.

Personas

Created reliable and realistic personas which represents our key audience segments for reference. These personas are created based on qualitative and quantitative user research. Based on the Persona pain points and goals created some user stories and features.

Minimam Vialable Product

Due to time constraints, some features will have to be simplified. Features that will get a more 'basic' treatment are: Top Rated movies, Friends rating, IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes rating, Rate for a movie, Seen-unseen.

User Flows

In order to maximize our conversions, we started user flow – build one that matches user’s needs and behavior. It’s the path a user follows through our App interface to complete a task. User flows are perfect for analyzing the efficiency of these tasks.

Wireframes

In order to maximize our conversions, we started user flow – build one that matches user’s needs and behavior. It’s the path a user follows through our App interface to complete a task. User flows are perfect for analyzing the efficiency of these tasks. The system needs to respond to the user when they make errors and do actions.

Usability Testing Takeaways

User is confused and not clear about the functionality of the App in the first round. Post walk thru, the user is able to perform the basic tasks within the App. Still not clear with the selection of specific Icons(watch list, Play Icon,) and the next screens by selection of these Icons. User also suggested to use standard language.(calling login or sign vs.using login in one screen and sign in another screen) User also suggested to remove App`s independent rating and suggested to provide “Friends rating” and all other ratings to be displayed after selection of “More” button.

Key Take Aways

Different users have different perspectives of the App. App is super easy to navigate, however improving the design further can make the user access much simpler.
